Bravery Calls My Name
"Thanks for getting here quickly, commander..." Wedge said as Laithlis entered his office. "I haven't told Fel yet, but I have a plan."
"A plan for what?"
"Well, it's obvious that we can't take on the Rebel task force on our own, nor can La Forge... and I expect after the shipyard incident, he's a little more... humble."
"Divide and conquer?"
"Well, yes. But the trick is to draw out their forces, but get away quickly, so they have to separate their forces, because they cannot respond fast enough when they've got their forces concentrated."
"Suppose the Rebel commander doesn't fall for it?" Laithlis's mind was processing all of this.
"They'll have to - the alternative is to lose their ground forces, equipment, and resources. While they might tolerate some losses, rest assured that they cannot sit idly by and let us strike and evade forever." Wedge had thought it through thoroughly.
"What if they've got an Interdictor? Kind of hard to evade then..."
"Firstly, if we do this right, the enemy ships will arrive after we're gone, or when we're ready to leave, and we'll make it. If not, then there's an old battle plan in the records, from Syrtaras, which is a surgical strike to take the interdictor out, or at least force it to withdraw, at which point, we should be able to escape."
"Interdictors are rare, anyway. We probably won't have to use that plan."
"That's true," Wedge mused, "but it's always good to have a plan of some sort."
"So where's the Chimaera going in this plan?"
"Probably behind enemy lines. Again. Opening up another front is a good way to look at it." Wedge paused. "I imagine that the army will go with us, at least for now." He answered Laith's next question already.
"Sounds good... let's take this up to La Forge and Admiral Fel."
General Jansen already had a plan of his own for what Rebel installations he wanted to hit. Of course, many places they were after had already been fought over once, but the Rebels had come back in force.
He called Wedge to his office, intercepting him on his way to his meeting with Fel and La Forge, and the two of them had combined their plans into one. They had been relatively similar, only their focuses had naturally been different... Army and Navy.
The first plan of action for the Army was to grab some prisoners from an area work camp. Stationed on the dark side of a remote moon, it held a number of prisoners from previous operations. The goal of the operation would be to slip a few teams of commandos onto the ground, and have them neutralize the perimeter defences of the compound, allowing the Empire to pick up the prisoners and get away.
However, the mission could be aborted if an overwhelming Rebel response was provoked... or sufficient enemy forces appeared in-system, and the Nemesis would then withdraw.
Seemed simple enough... but they always *seem* simple... and rarely are.
About one standard hour later, the Chimaera was on its way in hyperspace, on its way behind Rebel lines. The plan was a go.
